Quick breed overview

The Silken Windhound is a small long-haired greyhound, which is something that has been missing from the variety of greyhound breeds so far. It was bred by mixing Borzois and Whippets. Silken Windhound is a new breed, but there are breeders around the world. The United Kennel Club recognized it in 2011 and it is yet to be recognized by AKC and FCI.

Appearance

The Silken Windhound is a small to medium sized (47 to 60 centimeters tall) breed. The most recognizable feature is it’s reasonably long and silky coat. All colours and patterns are allowed.

Under the coat is your typical greyhound: a streamlined, athletic structure that is built for explosive speed.

Temperament & Behaviour

The Silky Windhound has a balanced and intelligent temperament. Although they have a strong hunting instinct, they are gentle, affectionate and loyal companions when at home.

It’s very well suited for families with kids, but they should not be walked by small children due to the strong prey drive.

Unusual fearfulness or nervousness, and the slightest hostility towards people or other dogs are punishable traits in breeding.
